# Engagement Challenges

**Challenges** are the heartbeat of Nudj. They are the specific tasks you want your users to perform—from simple surveys to complex multi-step social media campaigns. When a user completes a challenge, they are rewarded with Points, XP, and potentially Badges or tangible items.

<Info>
  **The Goal**: Move users from passive observation to active participation.
  **The Reward**: Instant gratification through Nudj's automated reward system.
</Info>

## How a Challenge is Structured

Every challenge consists of three parts:

<CardGroup cols={3}>
  <Card title="The Hook" icon="image">
    A title and image that makes the user want to click.
    *(See [Content Best Practices](/admin-guide/engagement/content-best-practices))*
  </Card>

  <Card title="The Actions" icon="list-check">
    The actual steps the user must take (e.g., "Watch video", "Answer quiz", "Share on X").
  </Card>

  <Card title="The Payout" icon="coins">
    The Points, XP, or Rewards the user receives instantly upon completion.
    *(See [Completion & Rewards](/admin-guide/challenges/completion-and-rewards))*
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## The Two Paths to Creation

Nudj offers two ways to build challenges, depending on your creative energy:

### 1. The AI Agent Path (Recommended)

Don't know what to build? Ask Nudj AI.

* *"Create a 5-day onboarding streak for new users."*
* *"Draft 3 challenges about our new product launch."*
  The AI will generate the titles, find appropriate images, and configure the actions for you.
  *(Learn more about [Nudj AI](/admin-guide/ai-agent))*

### 2. The Manual Builder

Full control over every pixel and point.

1. Go to **Engagement > Challenges > Create New**.
2. Choose from our [Action Templates](#action-types).
3. Configure your logic and rewards.

## Action Types: What can users do?

We offer a wide range of "Actions" that can be combined into a single challenge:

| Action Category  | Examples                           | Best For...                           |
| ---------------- | ---------------------------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| **Feedback** | Quizzes, Polls, Surveys | Learning about your audience. |
| **Education** | Watch Video, Read Article | Product training and onboarding. |
| **Growth** | Share on X/Twitter, Refer a Friend | Driving new signups and awareness. |
| **Community** | Post in Feed, Join Channel | Building "social glue" between users. |
| **Verification** | File Upload, URL Submission        | Verifying real-world tasks.           |

## Strategic Challenge Design

### The "First Win" Principle

Your first challenge should be impossible to fail. A "Welcome to the Community" challenge that rewards users just for clicking a button builds immediate positive momentum.

### Multi-Step Challenges

Break big tasks into small bites. Instead of one long challenge, create 3 short ones. Users are more likely to finish three 1-minute tasks than one 3-minute task.

### Scheduling & Expiry

* **Limited Time**: Create urgency by making a challenge expire in 48 hours.
* **Scheduled Drops**: Build anticipation by scheduling challenges to go live every Monday morning.

## Managing Your Challenges

In the **Challenges List**, you can track your success in real-time:

* **Views**: How many people saw the "Hook"?
* **Starts**: How many people clicked in?
* **Completions**: How many people crossed the finish line?

<Tip>
  **Pro Move**: If a challenge has high Views but low Starts, your title/image is good, but the "Hook" description isn't convincing enough.
