# Organizations vs Communities

> The essential difference between your business account and your engagement spaces

Think of it this way: if Nudj were a mall, your **organization** would be your business lease and admin office, while your **communities** would be the actual storefronts where customers shop. As Plato wrote, "The beginning is the most important part of the work"—and your community structure sets the foundation for everything that follows.

Most people care about communities (that's where the action is), but you need an organization first because someone has to pay the bills.

<Info>
  **Your org might only have 1 community** — and that's totally fine. You still need to understand the difference because some settings live at the organization level (team, billing, integrations) while others live at the community level (challenges, rewards, members). Knowing which is which saves you from looking in the wrong place.
</Info>

## Real Examples

**Marketing Agency**: One organization called "Creative Spark Agency" might run communities for "Nike Summer Campaign", "Startup Pitch Contest", and "Holiday Social Challenge".

**SaaS Company**: "TechCorp Inc" organization could have "Beta Testing Program", "Customer Onboarding Journey", and "Annual User Conference" communities.

**The pattern**: One business account (organization) manages multiple user experiences (communities).

## The Setup Flow

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create Organization">
    Your master business account with billing and team settings
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create Communities">
    Individual campaigns or experiences for your users
  </Step>

  <Step title="Users Join Communities">
    They never see organization details - just the communities they're part of
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Quick Decision Guide

* **Adding team members?** → Organization settings
* **Launching a new campaign?** → Create a community
* **User access issues?** → Check community settings
* **Billing problems?** → Organization settings

If it's about running your business, it's organization-level. If it's about engaging users, it's community-level.

*Most people spend 5 minutes setting up their organization and hours crafting their communities. That's exactly how it should be.*
