XP (Experience Points) is a permanent score that tracks your engagement in a community. Unlike points, XP is not spent — it only goes up, and it feeds things like leaderboard rank, levels, and progression displays.

Earning XP

XP comes from the same sources as points — challenges, actions, games, streaks, referrals — but each source has its own XP payout independent of its points payout. You can earn just points, just XP, or both per action.

Levels and progression

If your community uses a level configuration, your XP determines your current level. Progression may be linear (each level requires the same XP) or curved (each level requires more). The level is usually displayed near your avatar or in the profile.

XP on leaderboards

Most leaderboards rank by XP. Filtered leaderboards (daily, weekly, monthly) only count XP earned inside that window; all-time leaderboards count all XP.

XP Multiplier (Boost) effect

Redeeming an XP Multiplier reward (or being granted an XP Boost by an admin) boosts the XP you earn for a configured duration. The multiplier is applied automatically to new earnings — no action on your part. The highest active multiplier wins when multiple are in play, and expired ones are cleaned up the next time you earn XP.

Where XP shows

  • On the floating navigation button as a progress bar toward the next level.
  • On the community home or profile drawer, with the current level beside it.
  • On leaderboards as the ranking metric.

Feature flags

XP is shown behind a gamification feature flag. Communities that have gamification disabled may hide the XP surface entirely. Communities that use XP as their only progression metric may hide the points balance instead.
